What was your path to becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor?

I've wanted to serve others since childhood, maybe because my mom was a qualified nurse. My interest in psychology and sociology grew throughout high school and college when I picked Penn State University for my psychology degree. I interned in the John Heinz Brain, Neck, and Back Trauma Unit's psychology/counseling department during college, helping families adjust to a loved one's injury/diagnosis. Self-reflection and feedback that I was good at listening and empathizing prompted me to consider a master's degree in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern University. I interned with the Association for Community Counseling, working with individuals, couples, families, and groups on various difficulties and life-growth areas. I became a licensed mental health counselor after having many opportunities to help high-risk and low-support communities in Delray Beach and surrounding areas. This experience cemented my passion for mental health counseling.
